Feitianshan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Southernmost Sichuan. The Feitianshan Formation was erected by the Sichuan First Regional Geological Survey Team in 1965. The section for the designation is in the Feitianshan area near Xiaoxingchang of the Puge County, Sichuan. The Feitianshan Formation represents the rock beds between the Jurassic red bed and the Datongchang Fm conglomerate in the Panxi area of west Sichuan. It is attributed to Early Cretaceous in this lexicon.
Lithology and Thickness
The Feitianshan Formation is represented by purple red and brick-red sandstone interbedded with clayey shale. It is 1090.0 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base in disconformable contact built up by gravel-bearing sandstone is distinguished from the Guangou Fm consisting of gray siltstone and mudstone.
Upper contact
Its top is in disconformable contact bounded by purple red conglomerate at the base of the Xiaoba Fm.
Regional extent
It occurs in Xichang, Puge, Hanli and Ningnan in the southern section of Panxi of west Sichuan. It is quite persistent in lithology, with common intra-formational copper mineralization. In the Puge area it is up to 1000 m thick and decreases to 100-436 m southward.

Fossils
The formation yields Ostracods Cypridea minevensis- C. paulsgrovensis, C. subacuminata- C. chuxiongensis- C. angusticaudata assemblage.
